Today, HHS has released the Office of the National Coordinator for Health IT (ONC’s) Cures Act Final Rule.  The rule will help give patients safe and secure access to their health data, address industry-wide information blocking practices, and promote innovation.

The Cures Act Final Rule will implement interoperability provisions of the bipartisan 21st Century Cures Act and promote patients’ access to their health information. Putting patients in charge of their health records is a key piece of patient control in health care, and patient control is at the center of the ONC’s work toward a value-based health care system.

The ONC has a website dedicated to the final rule with overview information and detailed fact sheets. This website will continue to be updated on a regular basis with additional resources. Also, ONC’s executive director of policy, Elise Anthony, has written a blog post about this historic regulation.

ONC will host an informational webinar on Wednesday, March 11 at 3PM EST to provide an overview of the final rule.

Note: The webinar will be recorded and posted on HealthIT.gov/CuresRule by the end of the week.
